New Year’s Eve 2020 is going to be a very different affair for most people compared to New Year’s Eve 2019. With people staying at home alone across the country (and world!), the usual festive celebrations will most likely be happening online this year. However, there is no reason why you can’t make your 2020 New Year’s Eve celebrations special. There are lots of things you can do to ensure that you have a great time. Even if it is just you, make it a stylish affair by decorating with the same flourish that you would apply to a big social occasion. It’ll be a great backdrop to those NYE video calls you’ve been invited to.
Now, here’s the lowdown on how to end 2020 in style.
For a lot of people, their New Year celebrations are traditionally based around a sumptuous feast making the dinner table (and dining room) a key focus for the festivities. Even if you are solo, or just a small group from your household, make your dining room somewhere you want to spend your time this New Year’s Eve. Do more than just remember the family and friends that cannot be with you, speak to them online with a video call. If you are really organised, you could arrange to cook the same meal as your fellow video callers and to serve dinner at the same time (or as close to as possible). That way you can all sit and eat dinner at the same time, just as though you were together. Treat the evening the same as though you would normally. Get dressed up and play games, write down your resolutions. You can do all of this together around your beautifully decorated dining table but online! The beauty of the 21st century is that we have technology that can keep us all connected, even if we cannot be together in person.
Now that we’ve sorted out how you will be spending December 31st 2020, we need to move on to how to decorate your dining room for your big night.
In our last blog, we mentioned that the key to 2021’s home furnishing trends is taking inspiration from nature. That’s why we love this idea of bringing the great outdoors into your home. Suspending a beautiful tree branch from your ceiling, wrapping it in fairy lights and then decorating it in baubles creates an incredibly sophisticated and attractive focal point for your NYE celebrations. A woodsy chandelier looks great in any home, classic or contemporary. It’s so easy to put up by yourself too, which is very handy if you are self-isolating.
Decorate the twigs with beautiful baubles like our leaf baubles in slate grey, which are now in our ‘Up to 50% off’ sale. It’s a good time to enjoy some great savings for your Christmas decorations for this year, next year or to buy some gifts. Check out our beautiful pearlescent mottled finish glass bauble in a stunning dark turquoise colour, which is also in our ‘Up to 50% off’ sale.
Another option for adding some festive sparkle to your New Year’s Eve decorations for your dining room is to arrange branches in vases. Our Mercury glass cylinder hurricane vase is the perfect choice for some festive sparkle. The warm metallic tones make it a very versatile choice as it works well in interiors with warm colour schemes or in interiors with cool colour schemes. Once you have chosen your vase and placed your branch(es) inside, suspend baubles from the branches in colours that “coordinate with your tree scheme or use a different accent colour to embrace than one seasonal trend”. Top tip: It might be necessary to weight the vase with pebbles to stop it from toppling over.
If you are lucky enough to have a fireplace in your dining room, then your mantlepiece is your best friend at Christmas and New Year. It’s a wonderful space to arrange beautiful decorations and candles. Our Vienna Hanging Mirrored Star looks beautiful atop a mantlepiece surrounded by candles and foraged festive foliage like holly, ivy, rosemary, pine branches and sprigs of bay.
Finish off your NYE decorations by looking at your dinner table. Beautify your dinner table with candlesticks like our Beckett Large Copper Finish Candle Holder to create some height and soft flattering lighting. Hurricane vases like our Hand Blown Dimpled Hurricane Vase can be filled with holly and ivy to create a festive table setting that would give the Royals a run for their money.
We’d like to end by saying a very Happy New Year to everyone. We’re wishing for a happy, peaceful and safe New Year for us all.
We’re looking forward to welcoming you back in 2021.
